PLA stands for Polylactic Acid and is a resin made from corn starch.

These dome shaped  lids can be disposed of in a commercial composting waste stream. The use of corn based plastic also requires less energy and generates less greenhouse gas in manufacturing, therefore reduces your environmental foot print.
